SUMMER ACTIVITIES – ADULT

The Battelle Concert Series invites you to bring your beach chairs and enjoy music outside, right on Duxbury Bay, in the relaxed setting of the Battelle Co. campus. Watch the Clipper for dates. For big name music check the programs for the following venues:

Bird Watching is interesting due to our coastal location and varied environments. The North River Audubon Center on Rte. 3A in Marshfield has a variety of programs and "absolutely spectacular trails and bird watching!"

Clambakes are something you must partake in when you live this close to the ocean. Woods Seafood in Plymouth is a local favorite. They will arrange everything and put it in thermos containers. It's an unbelievably good meal and reasonable, too.

The Opening of the Bay Evening Dockside Gala is an incredibly fun party put on by Duxbury Bay Maritime School at the end of May. Good food, a silent auction, and great entertainment make for an unforgettable evening. The next day is family day. Kids activities include tall ship tours, games, a bounce house, and a dunk tank. There will also be food and local vendors/shopping, etc. 2011 dates are Friday May 27th for the Gala and Saturday May 28th for family day.

If you'd like to explore the bay in something other than a power boat, then learn to kayak, crew or sail at the Duxbury Bay Maritime School . "One of the very best parts of living in Duxbury!"

If you fish then you owe it to yourself to try deep sea fishing. Captain John has boats leaving from Plymouth harbor. It gets kudos for its service and convenience!

Join the Duxbury Beach Preservation Society! Become a member of this invaluable organization to take care of the beach and to be invited to the Best Party of the Year, which takes place in June at the Battelle Co. campus overlooking Duxbury Bay.

The Duxbury Rural and Historical Society oversees many of the town's historical sites. It holds fascinating lectures, a decorative holiday show in the landmark King Caesar House, and a variety of other programs and events. With Duxbury's rich history the society offers something for everyone.

Look for the "Evenings Under the Stars" performances presented by the South Shore Conservatory.

Fishing without a boat? There's great bluefish fishing off the side of Duxbury Bridge.

The Fourth of July Parade down Washington Street is a Duxbury tradition. Other events in the past have included bonfires and concerts, as well as neighbor-hood parties.

Golfing is a classic summer past-time/addiction. There are a number of public golf courses in the area. Try North Hill ( challenging and reasonable) in Duxbury, or Pine Hills ( costly but very good), or Waverly Oaks Golf Club, Souther’s Marsh and Squirrel Run in Plymouth.

Grilling on Duxbury Beach at sunset, does it get any better? Bonfires are not allowed but small fires are! If you are having a large crowd, you will need a permit from the harbormaster.

Kayaking in the marshes near Powder Point and Blue Fish River is another way of exploring the waterfront.

King Richard’s Faire is an amazing Medieval fair held in the nearby town on Carver in September.

For a change of pace a day or evening trip to the North End in Boston can't be beat. Dine out, savor the pastries and enjoy the festivals of the saints!

Prom Procession at Duxbury High School is a unique Duxbury tradition you just can't miss. The whole town turns out for this momentous occasion held early Saturday evening on Prom Night in May. Get there early for a good spot!

Sailing is something you have to do whether you know how or not. Rent a boat for the season from the Duxbury Bay Maritime School! If you can't sail take lessons or a bay cruise.

Scuba diving and lobster hunting are great activities. Learn to dive with Diver’s Market in Plymouth, they're "personable and professional!". They hold local classes at the Kingsbury Club pool. If you are already certified, they take you on dives throughout the area!

Walking throughout the area is a wonderful way to enjoy the summer. Duxbury has some lovely paths on its conservation property, including the Round Pond Conservation Area, the Bay Circuit Trail, as well as walks at Mayflower Street, Surplus Street and Bay Farm.

Waterfire - Jazz, gondolas and bonfires on the waterfront in Providence!

You can water ski in Duxbury Bay. Just ski on left side of the bridge and be sure to have a flag.

Whale watching is a great adventure and can be done through Captain John’s out of Plymouth.
