INTEREST GROUPS

Do you like to socialize, enjoying reading, need a babysitter, or want to join a playgroup? The Duxbury Newcomers' Club offers a wide range of groups to suit your interests. If you would like to join or want to start a new group, please check off areas of interest when submitting your membership form, or contact one of the people listed below.

Adult Social Committee
The Adult Social Committee runs larger activities/events for adults. We typically hold a Fall kick-off event, progressive dinner, and a new member cocktail party in the Spring, as well as some other smaller events.

Ladies' Crafts
Meet once a month to chat and swap ideas on crafts while working on your own projects. Bring knitting, scrap booking or whatever else you’re working on.

Book Club
We meet once a month to discuss books and enjoy each other’s company. This last year we’ve read from many genres, including recent fiction, classic literature, non-fiction, memoirs and mysteries.

Community Service
This is a great way to meet new people while working together in activities that benefit the community. We are looking for members to help make a difference in our community.

Empty Nesters
An opportunity for those with older kids (or no kids!) to share interests, meet new people and get involved in the community. Contact Sandy VonStackelberg at 781-934-0522 for more info.

Family Social Committee
The Family Social Committee runs activities centered around children. We typically hold an annual beach event, Halloween party, Holiday event, and a Easter Egg Hunt. Our events are family oriented and fun for all!

Freewheelers with Children
This group takes excursions with preschoolers to local area spots. Last year we went apple picking, rode horses, visited Weir River Farm, toured the Duxbury Fire Station and Police Station, and took nature walks.

Fundraising
This committee puts together events such as the Shop-A-Palooza and Spring House Tour which generate most of the money Newcomers’ donates each year. And they have a lot of fun doing it!

Family Trips & Tix
The Newcomers' Club comes together to take advantage of discounts on tickets to both adult and family shows in the area. Past groups include Wicked, Spamalot, High School Musical on Ice, Sesame Street Live and productions at the Wheelock Family Theatre. For more information, please contact Madeleine Sampson at 781-934-2950.

Helping Hands
Remember when you had a baby...how wonderful the experience was and how your life was instant chaos? Whenever a member has a baby or is in another time of need, helping hands will organize dinners delivered to your home. This is a wonderful way for our members to extend their kindness to help others. Being a gourmet cook is not required—even takeout would be appreciated!

Kids' Crafts
Past events have included painting Valentine heart boxes, an Easter Egg Hunt and tie-dying t-shirts.

Ladies' Night Out
Do you need some time off for just yourself? This group is geared to you! In the past, we have greatly enjoyed tarot card readings, gathering on the beach, rock climbing (followed by cocktails) and cooking classes, just to name a few. We chat, we laugh, and most of all, we have a good time.

Mens' Events
Join some other guys for fun outings like car racing at F1 Boston, paintball, fishing, mountain biking or playing a little tennis. Contact Jerome Sullivan at 781-934-0474 for more information.

Playgroups
Moms, Pops & Tots is a program of age-specific playgroups. Groups meet at a rotating member’s home or a chosen location on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. It’s a great way to meet other families and find playmates for your children.

Wine Tasting
This group meets on alternate months for a lesson in wine. We bring in outside experts to educate members about the subtleties of wine and enjoy some delicious wine and appetizers along the way.
