Who can join? Any resident of Duxbury, whether new or longtime, is welcome to join the Newcomers’ Club.
What do I get for my membership dues? Membership
includes the monthly newsletter, The Duxbury Connection,
and the yearly membership directory. Dues are $40.00 per year,
per household. The membership year is from July 1 through
June 30.
How many members does the club have?
There are currently about 100 families in the Newcomers’ Club.
Can I try the Duxbury Newcomers' Club before I join? All prospective members are encouraged to attend one event or meeting before joining.
What is the age range? All ages are welcome. Our members range from being in their twenties to eighties. We have recently started an “Empty Nesters” interest group for our more mature members.
What if you do not have the interest group I am looking for? Duxbury Newcomers' Club is membership driven. Any member can request the Board to start a new group if enough interest exists.
How do I go about making friends? BE ACTIVE! Go to our monthly programs, attend interest groups, join a committee, check out a Board Meeting and don’t forget our fun social events!
Do I have to pay for each interest group individually?
Membership dues give admission to everything. Some special
events have admission fees covering their cost. There is no
admission fee for interest groups, but each has a different
way of sharing expenses, if there are any. Hosting rotates
in most groups.
Which charitable organizations does the club support?
The Newcomer’s Club is committed to the advancement
of education, civic service, social and charitable purposes
in and around Duxbury and the South Shore community. A portion
of every single membership is allocated to our fundraising
efforts, in addition to the revenue raised from our many fundraisers.
In 2008 donations totaling almost $10,000 to the following
local charities: Duxbury Bay Maritime School (DBMS), Duxbury
Education Foundation (DEF), Duxbury Rural and Historical Society
(DR&HS), Friends of Duxbury Library, Bay Farm Montessori,
DUXFARM, Duxbury Art Association (DAA), Margery Parcher Fund,
DHS Scholarship, Crossroads for Kids, and MS Society.
Can I put advertisements in the newsletter? Yes, you can advertise in our newsletter. You do not have to be a member to be able to advertise. Please contact Cheryl Gleason or
Kerri Szafran for more information. If you would like to sponsor our Web Page we would like to hear from you too.
